26th March – TB testing anyone?

Despite the chaos that surrounds us, good old TB testing still continues (at least at present). Annual and pre-movement tests have yet to be cancelled and so for those affected, there is a very good link page that I will attempt to reproduce.

Here to inform you about all aspects of bovine TB

This should take you to the home page of TB hub.

26th March – 11.25am – Chancellor’s Relief for self employed

I have been struggling for the details of last nights speech, largely because there are few about as yet. Ed Nichols,  has found a copy of a HMRC link, which is probably as good as we are going to get. Please note – the taxpayer need do nothing yet and no cash will be forthcoming until June. I am beginning to fear that there is a great difference between the politicians (no doubt well intentioned statements) and their implementation. More anon.

COVID-19 Update

Dear colleague,

The Chancellor, this evening, announced a new Self-employment Income Support Scheme to support self-employed people who have been adversely affected by COVID-19.

GOV?.UK has further details about who is eligible for the scheme and how it will work.

Self-employed people do not need to get in touch with HMRC as the scheme isn’t yet open for applications. HMRC will contact eligible customers by the beginning of June, inviting them to apply.

Unfortunately, we are aware of an increase in scam emails, calls and texts. If someone gets in touch claiming to be from HMRC, saying that financial help can be claimed or that a tax refund is owed, and asks you to click on a link or to give information such as your name, credit card or bank details, please do not respond.

HMRC will never contact you out of the blue to ask for these details.

The government has also introduced the following help for the self-employed:

We will continue to share the most up to date information directly with you as it becomes available.

Yours sincerely

Jim Harra

26th March – Still waiting for self employed relief

Dear all,

Still waiting for self employed relief. On the ground we are already finding that the fine words of the Chancellor and PM are not being enacted by the Banks, who are quickly interpreting their own rule book to suit. This is disappointing, given that they were bailed out only 10 years ago.

Please find the ICAEW guidance on the implementation of the 80% relief.

25th March -12.50 – A note from Edward Nichols

Hello

I’m not sure what you are planning on putting in the Covid 19 H&C letter but I just wanted to highlight and VAT an income tax support available to clients

VAT – VAT payments due between 20/03/2020 and 30/06/2020 have been deferred until 05/04/2021 for that period. It doesn’t give any guidance on VAT return submissions. It looks like they need to be filed online at present.

July 2020 self-assessment payment – These have been deferred until 31st Jan 2021

See guidance:
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/guidance-to-employers-and-businesses-about-covid-19/covid-19-support-for-businesses

If you need anything during this period please give me a call.

Many thanks

Ed

Some good news………..!

Amongst all the quite justified doom and gloom at present there is perhaps a little ray of sunlight. According to my telephone it hasn’t rained for nearly a week and there’s not a single drop forecast for the next 10 days either. Let’s hope that the drilling can now begin in earnest and who knows some cattle may even be let out soon too. Fingers crossed.
